The Abuja State Security Services (SSS) on
Wednesday, January 13, paraded two suspects Shettima Buba and Abdullahi
Hassan for defrauding ladies on social media.
The state director of the Federal Capital Territory, Abubakar Bubuche said the suspects were arrested in Maiduguri, Borno state. Bubuche said: “The gang calls up their potential
victims and orders them to pay certain amount of money to a given
account or have their personal pictures edited and posted nude on the
internet.” Bubuche Shettima and Hassan were arrested following several
complaints from the public. He said the FCT SSS launched a detailed
investigation that led to the duo’s arrest.
He called on the general public to be mindful of their activities and dealings with unknown persons on social media.“This is to inform the general public of activities of criminal syndicates in the FCT,” Bubuche said. Speaking to journalists, Shettima, 35 and a graduate of
political science from the University of Maiduguri said he specializes
in threatening the ladies whom their nude pictures are already in the
gang’s possession. He said, in the last operation that got them arrested, the gang was able to obtain N170 million from their victim. He also disclosed that he had another partner, Abba who
specializes in luring the ladies into making their pictures available to
the gang. He however added that Hassan was never part of the business
but the group only makes use of his (Hassan’s) account for
transactions. Also, speaking, Hassan, a 22-year old School certificate
holder said he is not aware of the gang’s business. Speaking in Hausa,
Hassan said he only made his account details available for the group and
barely know what they are into.
