Kanu’s Re-Arraignment Stalled After Judge Fails To Show

The re-arraignment of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was stalled on Monday by the absence of the judge charged with hearing the case.

The reason for Justice John Tsoho’s absence was not immediately known.  However, the counsel to Mr. Kanu, Vincent Obetta, stated that he expected the court to provide another date for the re-arraignment.
Mr. Kanu is facing a six-count charge for treason and terrorism.  Last December, the IPOB leader expressed a lack of confidence in the previous judge overseeing his case, Justice Ahmed Mohammed.
Mr. Kanu was arrested in October, and has been in detention since then. On October 19, he was granted bail but was immediately re-arrested by agents of the Department of State Services (DSS).
His continued detention has sparked protests across the SouthEast region. Yesterday, supporters of Mr. Kanu clashed with the security services in Aba, a city in Abia State.
